The City of Georgetown received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2020. This is the 31st consecutive year that the City has received this award. The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded this certificate to the City of Georgetown for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. According to GFOA’s press release, the Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. The CAFR is judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program. It includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of transparency and full disclosure” to clearly communicate the financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the financial statements.
