Municipal Court

The City of Georgetown Municipal Court was established by City Council, by ordinance, to hear and determine all cases within its jurisdiction. It is part of the unified judicial system. The Municipal Court has jurisdiction over cases arising under ordinances of the municipality of the City of Georgetown, and over all offenses which are subject to a fine not exceeding $2,505 or imprisonment not exceeding 30 days, and which occur within the municipality.

The Court operates with the assistance of one full-time judge, one part-time judge, one court clerk, two program support assistants and one prosecutor. The powers and duties of a municipal court judge are the same as those of a magistrate, with regard to criminal matters; however, municipal court has no civil jurisdiction. This Court presides over matters involving preliminary hearings, bond hearings, jury trials and bench trials.

Image of New PDCourt convenes on Thursdays at 9:30 AM to resolve bench trial issues involving minor traffic violations, misdemeanor criminal violations and to sign newly requested arrest warrants. Court is located at the Law Enforcement Center, 2222 Highmarket Street (P.O. Box 939) Georgetown, SC 29442.

Fines are paid by cash, credit card, money order or cashiers check (in the Municipal Court at the Law Enforcement Center); or by money order or cashiers’ check (if by mail); or online. You may also call 843-545-4020 for further inquiries.
